The Morioka Ayame did just enough to secure a victory over the Takasaki Sakura, 5-4, in 11 innings at Ayame Park. Nobody did more than left fielder Masaaki Koga. Masuto Matsui, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 0.2 innings. Morioka, now 22-21, holds down third place in the Northern League.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the 11th for Morioka. That's when Hakaru Okajima hit a run-scoring double off 38-year old right-handed pitcher Ricardo Chávez to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"This is a resilient bunch," said Morioka manager George Fields.
