The Markham Wheelwrights took on the Thessalon North Stars at North Stars Stadium.

The Markham Wheelwrights besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Thessalon second baseman Mauricio Vera by beating the North Stars, 7-6, at North Stars Stadium. Vera was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Charlie Leighton recorded the save for Markham, his 6th of the season.

Markham used a clutch at-bat from Don Costello to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Wheelwrights ahead, 7-5. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"It was our day today," Costello told the Markham Citizen. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."

Markham is now 38-43. Thessalon is 36-49.
