There was no shortage of dramatics at Hakuchoh Park.

Despite a fine performance by center fielder Shinichi Kuroda, the Sabae Megane-ten lost to the Niigata Hakuchoh, 5-4. Kuroda was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Ian Edwards, who is tied for 7th in the NL in saves with 7, earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 6-7.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the first for Niigata. That's when Dacio Téllez hit a 2-run double off 26-year old right-handed pitcher Hikaru Hyuga to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"Put a star next to this win," Téllez said.

Niigata, now 61-44, holds down first place in the Northern League.
