Privateers Best Bucherons in Pitching Duel
|
Despite the rain, the fans at Privateers Grounds enjoyed a good ballgame.
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Sherbrooke Privateers and the Thurso Bucherons. Sherbrooke won it, 2-1. Sherbrooke starter Hernán Gutiérrez was in command. Gutiérrez picked up the win for Sherbrooke, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 6-7. Helio Hernández earned his 8th save in 9 chances.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Privateers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when shortstop Florêncio Cardoso hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Atenágoras Uribe and made the score 2-0, Privateers. Cardoso went 1-2.
"We leaned on our pitching tonight," Gutiérrez said.
With this game in the books, Sherbrooke is 53-58, Thurso 57-54.
