Strikers Win at Steinbach, 5-2
|
Strikers third baseman John Skiffington left his mark on his team's 5-2 win over the Steinbach Mennonites. Skiffington went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for Winnipeg in the contest. The winning pitcher was Ismael García. His record now stands at 1-2. The right-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits for the Strikers. Jean-Yves Ferrand earned the save, his 4th.
With Winnipeg trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Skiffington hit a fastball from Mokuo Ota for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Strikers ahead, 3-1.
Said losing manager Devin Durrett: "Give the Strikers credit. They played a better game than we did."
The Mennonites, 7-10, continue their sluggish start to the 1913 campaign.
