In an outstanding mound performance, Tyler Pecan Kings starter Santiago Ayala fired a complete-game shutout against the Galveston Gulls at Pecan Kings Stadium.
Ayala was the key to the 3-0 Tyler win. The 22-year-old left-hander was in high spirits for much of the game, his mood largely unfazed by the 4 hits and 4 walks he allowed.
"4 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter, as long as it was a shutout."
Ayala has made 9 starts so far this year and put up a 7-2 won-lost record with a 1.90 ERA. In 75.2 innings he has allowed 65 hits, walked 29 and struck out 69.
