The Tyler Pecan Kings could not turn a fine performance from first baseman Esteban Villa into a win. Instead, the Galveston Gulls prevailed, 7-3. Villa was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Despite the win, the Gulls have a lousy 6-35 record.

Rubén Otero had a big bases-clearing double for the Gulls in the bottom of the third inning. With Galveston leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from Rubén Quiroz, who is tied for 6th in the EFBA with a 7.6 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gulls ahead, 6-0.

"Nice to get this one," said Otero. "We've been scuffling."
