The Abilene Preachers defeated the Lubbock Layabouts, 7-4. Doing his part was catcher Eneas Rosa, who went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Toirealach Miller, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Layabouts to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 6. Patrick Bert was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

Abilene used a well-timed hit by Froilán Pérez to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Preachers ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Rosa. "Just do my job."

With the victory, the Preachers record stands at 14-30.
