Phoenix center fielder Tarasio Oquendo was sensational. He went 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Tucson beat the Gila Monsters, 8-7. The second-place Highwaymen improved to 50-42.

The result might have been different, had it not been for 22-year old first baseman Meliteo Rivera. Rivera had a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Highwaymen ahead, 6-5. For the game, Rivera had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

Rivera said afterward that he was glad to help his team win.
