Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Galveston Gulls were eager to watch Nicolás Méndez square off against Joseph Scott of the visiting Nacogdoches Roaches. In the end, the Roaches won the game, 5-0, with Joseph Scott leading the way. In 7.2 innings, Scott surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. He allowed no runs.

Ubaldo Sandoval dealt the Gulls a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Nacogdoches leading 3-0, Sandoval hit a 2-0 cutter for a 2-run single.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Nacogdoches manager Miguel Espinosa.
