Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Abilene Preachers and the Lubbock Layabouts. Abilene won it, 3-0. Abilene starter Rick Jerome was in command. The setback makes Lubbock 56-59.

Mason Gilbert put Abilene in front, 3-0, when he took Brian Duggan downtown. His 2-run home run came with one out in the top of the fourth. It was his 7th home run of the season.

Jerome said afterward that "winning, obviously, is the main objective."
