Willows Rally to Nose Past Brandon
|
Though he had a stellar game, Delfín Cardona could not prevent his team, the Brandon Threshers, from losing, 7-6, to the Saskatoon Willows. Cardona went 3-3 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Saskatoon starter Calvino Carpio was credited with the win after throwing 144 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 13-10. Virgilio Ávila closed it out for Saskatoon, earning his 6th save.
Arnaldo Rivera, who is tied for 10th in the PL in home runs with 13, went 2-4 with 2 singles for Saskatoon. In a tie game with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Rivera came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Willows in front, 7-6.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Rivera.
Yes, it was a win for Saskatoon; but their 39-73 record is still nothing to boast about.
