With 6-1 Win, Elefantes Improve to 58-50
|
The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Cienfuegos fans at Estadio de los Elefantes.
The Cienfuegos Elefantes downed the Santa Clara Leopardos, 6-1, at Estadio de los Elefantes. Stellar pitching by Felipe Pérez had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 9th in the TOCC in wins with 12, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 9 innings, Pérez surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run.
Heráclito Sosa had a big 2-run double for the Elefantes in the bottom of the third inning. With Cienfuegos leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from Amadís Zavala, who is tied for 3rd in the TOCC with a 2.09 ERA, and swatted a double to right. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Elefantes ahead, 4-0.
"I'll be honest," said Pérez. "I was running on fumes at the end."
The second-place Elefantes are 58-50.
