Habana got a valiant performance from pitcher Kayne Ariss, but it wasn't enough to beat the Santa Clara Leopardos. Santa Clara won the game, 2-1. Ariss threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Alcides Estrada, the winner, is now 14-11. He struck out 4 and walked 2 over 7.2 innings, while allowing 1 run on 7 hits. Ananías Solares got the save, the 2nd for him this season.
Carlos Escobar had a big run-scoring double for the Leopardos in the bottom of the first inning. With Santa Clara leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Kayne Ariss, who led the TOCC in wins with 18 in 1909, and swatted a double to left. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Leopardos ahead, 2-0.
"One measly run," said Habana manager Luis González. "That won't win you too many games."
Santa Clara is now 65-66, while Habana is 69-61.
