Deep Ones Get 9-6 Win Versus Winchendon
|
The Newburyport Deep Ones reigned over the Winchendon Rocking Horses in damp conditions.
The inspired effort of Winchendon shortstop José Covarrubias was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-6, to the Newburyport Deep Ones. Covarrubias went 3-5 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was Everardo Olquín. He's now 3-0. He went 6 innings, allowing 6 runs on 12 hits for the Deep Ones. Eduardo Sandoval closed it out for his 1st save.
In the top of the fifth, Newburyport first baseman Jorge Lefebre had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Lefebre stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 8-6, Newburyport. For the game, he went 2-5 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"I try to keep my center," said Lefebre, "try to keep things in perspective."
The win lifts Newburyport to a record of 6-4.
