Cordwainers Suffer 4-3 Setback
|
The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Waterville fans at The Grove.
The Waterville Elms trumped the Auburn Cordwainers, 4-3, at The Grove. Waterville right fielder Jack Johnson was terrific. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Lorenzo Flores claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record stands at 2-0.
Johnson had a timely hit for Waterville in the bottom of the eighth. With Waterville trailing 3-2, he turned a 0-2 curveball into a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season, making it 4-3, Waterville.
Johnson said his team "played with determination."
After today's action, Waterville sits at 16-12, while Auburn falls to 11-17.
