Cordwainers Come Up Short at Waterville, 4-3
The rain could not keep the home crowd from enjoying a good ballgame.

The Waterville Elms weathered an outstanding game by Auburn catcher Gilberto Torres to topple the Cordwainers, 4-3. Torres was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was 29-year old left-handed pitcher Gregory Carroll. He tossed 92 pitches over 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.

The Elms got a big at-bat from second baseman Derek Day. For the game, Day was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Waterville a 2-1 lead.

"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Day.

The win makes Waterville 22-17.
