Lightermen Rally For Late Win Over Quarrymen
|
The Burlington Lightermen tallied a win at The Pit, throttling the Rutland Quarrymen, 4-1. Starting pitcher Lázaro Yáñez was a big reason for his team's success. In 9 innings, Yáñez surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. At 33-23, the Lightermen are currently second in the Northern New England Association Vermont Circuit.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the eighth inning when the Lightermen sent teenager Logan Watson to the plate against Quarrymen hurler Cleto Gómez. With runners on 1st and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 2-2 slider to score 1.
"I felt strong out there," said Yáñez.
