Eugenio Lugo of the Auburn Cordwainers was on top of his game.
The 24-year-old tantalized the Waterville Elms with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.
"He had the changeup working," Waterville manager Milt Scott said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Auburn hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Lugo told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year, Lugo has recorded a 8-4 mark. In 14 starts he has fanned 58 batters in 107 innings with a 3.79 ERA.
