Deep Ones Fall, 9-1, to González, Red Onions
|
Though the conditions were not ideal, the Templeton Red Onions and Newburyport Deep Ones came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Due in large part to first baseman Semónides González, the Templeton Red Onions sunk the Newburyport Deep Ones, 9-1. González went 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Jorge Cortés got the win, improving to 6-7. He worked 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3.
In the bottom of the first, González had one of his most important at-bats: a 2-run single off Gabriel Salinas that staked the Red Onions to a 2-0 lead.
"I just tried to make good contact," said González.
At 38-28, the Red Onions are currently first in the Southern New England Association Massachusetts Circuit.
