Rocking Horses Stop Deep Ones, 5-3
|
Winchendon registered a win at Innsmouth-under-the-Shadow Park by beating the Newburyport Deep Ones, 5-3. Pitcher Calvino Mejía was one reason why the Rocking Horses triumphed. Mejía, now 6-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Ramón Govantes closed out the game, earning his 5th save.
It could have been a different outcome for Winchendon, had it not been for Avelino Pérez, the 30-year old right fielder . Pérez contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Winchendon up, 4-2.
Pérez told a Winchendon News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
The last-place Rocking Horses are 30-41.
