Macedo Shines in 12-9 Newport Win
The Newport Pilot Whales defeated the Providence Gems, 12-9. Doing his part was center fielder Francisco Macedo, who was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Newport improves to 50-28 with the win. They lead their division by 7½ games.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Pilot Whales grabbed the lead when Macedo hit his 10th double of the season. The 2-run double off Baldovino Font made it 11-9, Newport.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Macedo, "one at-bat at a time."
