Deep Ones Lose at Home, 4-1

Conditions were not ideal but Templeton and Newburyport were able to put their game in the books.
The Templeton Red Onions downed the Newburyport Deep Ones, 4-1, at Innsmouth-under-the-Shadow Park. Stellar pitching by Jorge Cortés had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. With the win over Newburyport, the Red Onions improved to 58-44.
There were several reasons the Red Onions beat the Deep Ones, but one factor was José Vaquera. In the top of the fourth, the Templeton shortstop came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 2-1 lead.
"We all want to win," said Vaquera. "We all want to do our part."
