Rocking Horses Absorb 3-1 Home Loss
|
The Newburyport Deep Ones topped the Winchendon Rocking Horses, 3-1, in Southern New England Association action at The Toy Store. The standout performance belonged to Newburyport pitcher and San German, Puerto Rico, native Gabriel Salinas. Sammy Rissanen earned the save for Newburyport, his 5th. Newburyport is third in the Southern New England Association Massachusetts Circuit with a record of 50-58.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ryan Rodríguez? The Newburyport left fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Deep Ones on top, 2-1. For the game, Rodríguez had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Salinas.
