In a low-scoring tilt between the Burlington Lightermen and the Rutland Quarrymen, 22-year old left-handed pitcher Antonio Hidalgo was the difference-maker. The Burlington left-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. The Quarrymen, now 31-83, have lost 11 straight.
Jorge Saldierna had a big solo home run for the Lightermen in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Burlington leading 2-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 28-year old left-handed pitcher Ernesto Jiménez and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Lightermen on top, 3-0.
"I'm happy we won," said Hidalgo. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
