The Newport Pilot Whales powered past the Providence Gems, 9-1, at The Mine. Derek Larkin was 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI, to lead the charge. The Pilot Whales raised their record to 70-53.

With Newport leading 5-1 in the top of the eighth, Larkin came up to bat against Providence pitcher Jack Cronin. Larkin hit a fastball to left for a bases-clearing double. His 31st double of the season put the Pilot Whales on top, 8-1.

Larkin said afterward that "winning is the goal."
