Newburyport Claims 3-1 Victory
|
The Newburyport Deep Ones and Falmouth Submersibles played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
The Newburyport Deep Ones got a good effort from starter David Zarate in defeating the Falmouth Submersibles at Innsmouth-under-the-Shadow Park. The final score was 3-1. In 7 innings, Zarate surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Víctor Hugo Chávez earned the save for Newburyport, his 4th of the year.
The Deep Ones got an important contribution from third baseman Manuel Masineira, who in the bottom of the second hit a 0-2 slider to left for a run-scoring double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Deep Ones ahead, 2-0.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Masineira. "You've got to get results."
The Deep Ones improved their record to 58-66 with the win over Falmouth.
