The Newport Pilot Whales defeated the Providence Gems, 5-4, at Newport Grounds. Newport first baseman Pablo Morales had a superb performance. He went 4-4 with 4 singles. José María López, credited with the win, is now 3-4. He allowed 4 runs on 13 hits in 9 innings. The Pilot Whales saw their win-loss record go to 76-49. At the same time, the Gems fell to 42-83.

Newport took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and a runner on 2nd, Enrique Morales stroked a run-scoring single to make it 4-3, Pilot Whales.

Newport manager Pablo Morales said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
