Alfereces Handle Ermitanos, Nab 3-1 Win
|
Parquecito de Mayagüez was the site of a tense game between the Camuy Ermitanos and Mayaguez Alfereces.
Mayaguez pitcher Abenámar Costello did his part in helping his team beat the Camuy Ermitanos, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The winning pitcher was Costello, now 1-1. He tossed 8.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 5. Vavrin Janak locked down his 1st save.
Had Fernando Luna not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Luna hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Alfereces.
"It never gets old," said Costello. "Winning, that is."
Mayaguez, with the win, is 8-20.
