Cachorros Score Late to Nip Defensores, 3-2
|
The home crowd was treated to a thrilling, walk-off win.
The Dorado Defensores could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Desiderio Santos into a win. Instead, the Arecibo Cachorros prevailed, 3-2, in 13 innings. Santos threw 11.0 innings of 8-hit ball. Arecibo reliever Gabriel Hernández picked up the win, upping his record to 6-4. Cayetano Ramírez took the loss.
The Cachorros got a clutch hit from designated hitter Laureano Ramos. In the bottom of the 13th, he hit a run-scoring single to right-center, to win the game for the Cachorros.
"This is truly a great team to play with," Ramos said after the game. "We're like brothers, and when we come together to pull out the win, that just makes it all the better."
The second-place Cachorros are now 27-12, the Defensores 22-19.
