Mateo Torres did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Loiza Pleneros from losing the game, 8-7, to the Rio Grande Zarzas in 12 innings at Parquecito de Río Grande. Torres was 3 for 6 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. Loiza is in the throes of a losing streak which has reached 19 games.

Batting in the bottom of the 12th, 21-year old second baseman Gerardo García had a real shot to win the game. Loiza pitcher Baltasar Ruiz was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, García hit a run-scoring single. The Zarzas had a walk-off triumph.

"No one likes losing," said Loiza manager Belerofonte Bernal. "We've hit a tough patch, but we're going to get through it."
