A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Cabo Rojo Maravillosos and Ponce Hidalgos.
The Cabo Rojo Maravillosos downed the Ponce Hidalgos, 4-1, at Parquecito de Ponce. Stellar pitching by Mick Kavanagh had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. The winner was Kavanagh. He threw 7.2 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Homero García.
Cabo Rojo took advantage of an error in the top of the sixth inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Rafael Pérez hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Maravillosos in front, 2-1.
"We didn't get the results we wanted," said losing manager Bill McCloskey. "But we'll come back and try and get the next ballgame."
After today's action, Cabo Rojo sits at 28-28, while Ponce falls to 27-31.
