In a low-scoring affair between the Valencia Industriales and the Maracaibo Independientes, pitcher Alejandro Gutiérrez was the difference between victory and defeat. The Valencia left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Industriales win. Samuel Gámez, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings. The loss drops the Independientes to 13-9.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, an error by the Independientes allowed the Industriales to score the winning run.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Gutiérrez told a Valencia Bulletin reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
