The Puerto La Cruz Timoneles got a sterling performance from pitcher Disibodo Bermúdez, but the Caracas Sultanes still prevailed, 3-2. Bermúdez threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The win was credited to 29-year old right-handed pitcher Matt Read in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Disibodo Bermúdez took the loss. The third-place Sultanes improved to 14-13.
Caracas used a well-timed hit by Fausto Ortiz to capture the win. The second baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Sultanes ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I was hoping to make good contact," said Ortiz. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
