Mendoza Shines in 12-7 Newport Win
The Newport Stevedores bested the Swansea Copper Lords by a score of 12-7, with second baseman Vicente Mendoza getting the main credit. On the day, Mendoza belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Stevedores. Newport sits in last place in the Baseball Federation of England & Wales Undeb Pel-fas Cymru at 48-84.

The Newport triumph was a team effort. Not least among the contributors was Marcos Barragán. In the bottom of the fourth, the Newport third baseman hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to the lead, 3-2.

"I liked our effort," said Stevedores manager Isaac Pérez.
