The Gurabo Escaleras got a magnificent effort from pitcher Ernesto Orozco, who kept Vieques hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Escaleras win at La Cenadora. Orozco yielded 1 run over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 4-1. The save went to Cirilo Pérez, number 3 for him.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Pedro Estrada? The 21-year old second baseman Estrada stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Gurabo up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Not to be Captain Obvious," said Vieques manager Ricardo Santiago, "but we need to push more runs across the plate."
