Manati took on Vega Baja in front of a lively crowd.
Due in large part to third baseman Kieron Lyme, the Manati Hoplitas sunk the Vega Baja Dulzones, 9-2. Lyme was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Tatsuya Kawano picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 9-6. Picking up his 2nd save was 18-year old right-handed pitcher Roberto Ávila.
Had Karol van As not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, van As hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Hoplitas.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said van As.
Manati is 59-33 and Vega Baja, with the loss, 40-52.
