The skies opened up and the rain fell at Estadio de Maracaibo.

Marcos Torres, who is tied for 3rd in the LO with a .399 on-base percentage, led Maracaibo to a win over Valencia. The final score was 9-6. Torres scored 2 times, while going 3 for 5. The right fielder also was credited with 1 run batted in. Maracaibo pitcher Efraín Cisneros got the win, upping his record to 8-6. Nicolás Fernández got the loss.

Punto Fijo, Venezuela-born Giovannino Olmeda came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Independientes trailing 6-5, he hit a 2-run single to right-center to put Maracaibo on top.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Torres.

The second-place Independientes are now 48-32, the Industriales 28-50.
