The Coro Bizantinos got a good effort from starter Fernando Mascorro in defeating the Merida Caballeros at Estadio de Coro. The final score was 4-2. The second-place Bizantinos are now 32-23, the Caballeros 30-29.

Tied up with the Caballeros in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bizantinos got a boost from center fielder Columbano Mendoza. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Mendoza saw a 1-2 fastball from Quilvio González and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Coro on top, 3-1.

"Whenever I help the team," said Mendoza, "I feel like I earned my paycheck."
