Cunaguaros Rally to Nose Past Cumana

The Nueva Esparta Cunaguaros downed the Cumana Atunes, 5-4, at Parque de Cumana. Rafferty Sexton led the way, going 3-for-5 for Nueva Esparta. Rafael Maestas picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Guignard Romanelli suffered the loss. René Ávila earned the save for Nueva Esparta, his 3rd.
The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Sexton delivered big-time for Nueva Esparta, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Guignard Romanelli. The game-changing hit put the Cunaguaros on top, 5-4.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Sexton told a Nueva Esparta Daily News reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The Cunaguaros saw their win-loss record go to 35-47. At the same time, the Atunes fell to 41-41.
