Soggy conditions did not keep Salzburg and Ljubljana from playing their scheduled game.
Salzburg Wunderkinder starter Werner Metternich was in the groove. He led his team to a win over the Ljubljana Zmaji, 5-2. In 9 innings, Metternich surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs.
Simon Plaschke had a big 2-run home run for the Wunderkinder in the top of the third inning. With Salzburg leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a slider from Otmar Velikonja, who is tied for 8th in the OLK in wins with 12, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Wunderkinder on top, 3-0.
"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Plaschke.
Salzburg now sits at 48-45, while Ljubljana falls to 48-45.
