In the end, the Kingyo won the game, 3-1, with Acacio Velásquez leading the way. Yamatokoriyama reliever Higinio Rodríguez got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Steve Stewart was tagged with the loss.
Junichi Koishizawa had a direct impact on the outcome. Koishizawa contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Yamatokoriyama up, 3-1.
Koishizawa attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
