Hakodate pitcher Christy Mathewson gave the Ayame all they could handle, but in the end, Morioka left Daiouika Park with a win, 2-1. Mathewson allowed 1 run on 6 hits over 8.1 innings. Masuto Matsui, credited with the win in relief, is now 6-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. The loss makes Hakodate 32-29.

Morioka used the timely hitting of Ed Hahn to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Ayame on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Said Hahn: "It's just one win, but it feels like more when you outlast a tough opponent."
