The Yamatokoriyama Kingyo did just enough to sneak past the Matsuyama Kawauso, 5-4, at Kawauso Stadium. Yamatokoriyama second baseman Fergus Lynch, in particular, had a standout performance. C.J. Partlow collected save number 11. Yamatokoriyama, now 37-21, holds down first place in the Southern League.

Had Jesús Vázquez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Vázquez hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Kingyo.

"We've got a great group of guys," Lynch said, "and we're having fun right now."
