In a low-scoring contest between the Coro Bizantinos and the Maracaibo Independientes, José Shaefer was the X factor. The Coro right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Noé Jiménez collected his 11th save. The 4th-place Bizantinos have a record of 46-45.

Hormisdas Arce was 1-3 for Coro. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Arce, who finished 5th in the LO in RBI with 65 in 1908, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Maracaibo hurler Duarte Flores, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Bizantinos a 2-1 lead.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Shaefer told the Coro Today.
