In a low-scoring affair between the Maracaibo Independientes and the Valencia Industriales, pitcher Iapeto Martínez was the difference between victory and defeat. The Maracaibo right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Independientes win. Maracaibo is now 57-36.

Vicente Segovia helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he hit a first pitch sinker from Justino Martínez for a run-scoring double, to give Maracaibo a 1-0 lead.
