Though he had a terrific game, Mateo Torres could not prevent his team, the Nueva Esparta Cunaguaros, from absorbing a loss. Puerto La Cruz won the game, 7-5. Torres went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The second-place Timoneles now sit at 58-38.

The result might have been different, had it not been for 26-year old right fielder Juan Gutiérrez. Gutiérrez had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Timoneles ahead, 5-4. For the game, Gutiérrez had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Gutiérrez told the Puerto La Cruz Chronicle.
