Maracaibo beat Barinas on the strength of starting pitcher Iapeto Martínez's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-3. Luis Almodóvar earned the save for Maracaibo, his 1st. At 58-39, the Independientes are currently second in the Liga Oeste.

There were several reasons the Independientes beat the Viajeros, but one factor was Davi Arnoux. In the top of the third, the Maracaibo first baseman came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 2-1 lead.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Maracaibo manager Baldomero Neave.
