Guatire Gets 7-4 Win
|
Parque de Cumana was the site for Liga Este action featuring the Cumana Atunes and Guatire Heroes.
The Guatire Heroes defeated the Cumana Atunes, 7-4, in part because of shortstop Celedonio Torres. Torres went 3 for 5 with a triple and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Heroes. Guatire pitcher Marco Maldonado earned the win, hiking his record to 10-11. Fulco García suffered the loss.
Guatire used the clutch hitting of Bolívar Carapito to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Heroes the lead, 7-4. For the game, Carapito had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Cumana manager Marcos Ramírez. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The Heroes now have a record of 34-68.
