In a tight tilt between the Niigata Hakuchoh and the Takasaki Sakura, Nobuyuki Sasaki was the deciding factor. The Niigata right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Sasaki, who is tied for 2nd in the NL in innings pitched with 177.2, went the distance for Niigata. He gave up 1 run on 10 hits. Niigata sits in first place in the Northern League at 52-28.

Niigata got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Ron Sabine. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Hakuchoh ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.

"Every loss hurts," said Takasaki manager Alejandro Rodríguez. "But this was a tough one."
